60 acre farm growing potatoes, spring cabbage, onions. Farm shop opened March 2005
FARM SHOP: Home Grown & Local Vegetables, Fresh Local Milk, Free Range Eggs, Farmhouse Ice-cream, hand made jams and preserves, local cheeses, biscuits and sweets (the shop does also offer vegetables and fruits from around the world)
DIRECTIONS: Farm shop 3 m N of Burscough, 1.5 m N of Martin Mere Wild Life & Wetlands Trust (just follow the brown tourist signs with the duck on)
Tearoom: The tearoom has: Fresh Sandwiches & Salads and a selection of homemade scones and cakes. The coffee for the lattes and cappuccinos is roasted in Clitheroe and the tea is from Yorkshire
The Seddon family have farmed in Holmeswood for four generations. On 13th June 1986 Gary and Margaret moved into Homestead Farm. It was a mixed arable growing crops such as lettuce, cabbage, cauliflowers, potatoes, carrots and leeks. Over the years the number of crops grown has reduced and the main crop is now leeks (harvested July to May).
For over ten years potatoes had been sold from the farm but due to requests for farm fresh vegetables and free range eggs part of the barn, which had been used to dry and store onions, was converted into the Farm Shop and Country Food Store which opened in Spring 2005.
The shop sells home grown vegetables and potatoes, other local seasonal vegetables and fruits. This is complimented with a range of other vegetables and fruits from Britain and the world.
Other local and regional products include, free range hen and duck eggs, farm fresh milk, hand made jams and preserves, farmhouse ice-cream (straight from the dairy), biscuits, cheeses, sweets handmade cards, rustic garden furniture & bird tables etc.
The shop has a tearoom offering coffee roasted in Clitheroe (latte, cappuccino, etc), Yorkshire tea and hot chocolate. Freshly made salads and sandwiches & salads - and for deserts - Homemade scones, cakes or an ice-cream.
Coming soon!! Packed raw meats (chicken portions, chops, steak etc) and locally cooked meats. We are always looking for new products and we are continually expanding our range. We hope to offer Lancashire Hampers and fine food hampers for Christmas or any other occasion.
